As many of you know, on 29th July 1998, my world came to an end. At the age of 39, I went from being a successful computer sales manager to a wheelchair bound tetraplegic in a matter of seconds. I was in a road traffic accident that has left me paralysed from the chest downwards and, whilst I can move one arm slightly, I have no use in my hands whatsoever.

I spent a total of nine months in spinal units in Wakefield and Salisbury and, on leaving hospital, in April 1999, I lived with my parents for three years in the very cottage where my Dad was born.

Access here was very restricted but life was very happy and I was so pleased to have been able to share those years with my Dad before he, sadly, passed away in April last year.

It also gave me time to find out more about environmental control systems, computers and the like before moving to my own home in July last year.
